Uther-Pendragon

Uther-Pendragon provides the backstory for Howard Pyle’s retelling of the Book of King Arthur. Before there was Arthur, Uther-Pendragon, Arthur’s father, strove to unite the kingdom and keep the peace. As he grew older, he made secret plans with Merlin for Arthur’s future . . . .

The Winning of Kinghood: This book is the first of the three parts from Howard Pyle’s Book of King Arthur; it tells the story of Uther Pendragon (Prologue), Arthur’s birth, the “miracle” of the sword in the stone, and Arthur’s winning of kinghood. This book is 102 pages long, and contains a handful of illustrations from Howard Pyle.
