Sword in the Stone

The story of the Sword in the Stone takes place in Chapter the Second of the first part of Howard Pyle’s retelling of the Book of King Arthur. When Sir Kay’s sword is broken at the tournament, his squire, young Arthur, retrieves a mysterious sword lodged in an anvil in front of the cathedral . . . .

The Winning of Kinghood: This book is the first of the three parts from Howard Pyle’s Book of King Arthur; it tells the story of Uther Pendragon (Prologue), Arthur’s birth, the “miracle” of the sword in the stone, and Arthur’s winning of kinghood. This book is 102 pages long, and contains a handful of illustrations from Howard Pyle.
